Michigan weather and a lack of volunteers have forced organizers of the Pottsville Cruise to scale things back to a one-day-only event according to Stephen Pytak of the Republican Herald. Donations to the Pottsville Lions Charities dropped considerably in 2011.

The 19th annual Great Pottsville Cruise, organized by the Pottsville Lions Club, will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, with a rain date of Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012. The new Great Pottsville Cruise will focus on downtown Pottsville and the staging area will be Centre Street from Laurel Boulevard to Mahantongo Street.

The Bloomsburg annual Rod and Custom Cruise-In, usually held the same weekend, will not be held in 2012.

Second Mopar® ‘Top Eliminator’ of 2011 to be Named at Carlisle Chrysler Nationals

  • Second of three 2011 Mopar® ‘Top Eliminator’ winners to be named at Carlisle
  • Mopar Direct Connection display center will also be on hand with Mopar exhibits and fan activities
  • Carlisle will also feature Chrysler Group LLC vehicle test-drive area

July 5, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – The second of three Mopar® “Top Eliminator” winners of 2011 will be named during the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle, Pa. on Sunday, July 10 and honored during the awards celebration which wraps up the annual three-day event.

The Mopar “Top Eliminator” program challenges the “best of the best” to produce accessorized Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth vehicles. A panel of Mopar representatives will select the “Top Eliminator” winner, with each recipient’s vehicle to be showcased in the Mopar display at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, Nov. 1–4, 2011.

“The Carlisle Chrysler Nationals features one of the largest show fields of Mopars anywhere in the world,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “With thousands of amazing Mopar vehicles on display, there is no better venue to choose our second 2011 Mopar ‘Top Eliminator’ winner than at Carlisle.”

Scott Buck of East Greeneville, Pa., was named the Mopar “Top Eliminator” winner at the 2010 Carlisle Chrysler Nationals for his 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee. Buck spent several years on the restoration, which included a number of Mopar parts, including a Mopar Performance camshaft, valve covers and intake manifold.

Martin Wimberly of Odin, Ill. and his 1971 Plymouth HEMI® ’Cuda convertible were chosen as the first Mopar “Top Eliminator” winner of 2011 on June 5, during the 27th Annual Mopars in The Park at the Dakota County Fairgrounds in Farmington, Minn. The final of the three Mopar “Top Eliminator” winners of 2011 will be chosen during the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak, Mich., on Saturday, August 20.

The Mopar Direct Connection display center will be on hand for all three days of the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals, with Mopar parts and show vehicles on exhibit, and fun activities and contests available for attendees to take part in. A test-drive area will also be on tap at Carlisle for Mopar enthusiasts to take the wheel of brand-new Chrysler Group LLC vehicles. Famed Mopar-powered drag racing legends, the Ramchargers, will take part in autograph sessions on Friday, July 8 and Saturday, July 9 at 11 a.m. at the Mopar display. The Mopar brand will also feature its Rolling Speedshop gear trailer, with Mopar apparel and other items available for purchase.

Woodward Avenue All-American Road signs available

When theft turns into opportunity.

To celebrate Woodward, the Woodward Avenue Action Association (WA3) came up with a great looking sign to mount all along the famous stretch of road otherwise known as M1.

Once the 50 signs went up this past spring, two were stolen from Royal Oak and two from Pontiac.  The 48″ x 24″ signs costs about $400 each and were funded by the Federal Highway Administration.  How was this turned into opportunity?  To help curb future thefts, the WA3 has come up with replica signs, a smaller and lighter version, available for between $100 and $200 each.  See the official press release here.

Interested in purchasing a sign?  Contact Lori Ella Miller at the WA3 at 248-288-2004 or loriella@woodwardavenue.org
